How Cleaner Climate are helping cut living costs to low-income families and funding kids to stay in school.
Did you ever wonder exactly what happens when you choose to “offset your carbon emissions”? At Insider Journeys our focus on Responsible Tourism includes offsetting the carbon emissions from our 10 most popular small group tours. To achieve this we contracted Cleaner Climate to offset the total amount of carbon emissions for each of these trips. But how exactly do they do this?
Project: 1 million free compact fluorescent bulbs for rural low-income households
Cleaner Climate installing high-efficiency light bulb
By giving away one-million energy efficient light bulbs to over 800,000 low-income households in southern Vietnam, not only are carbon emissions reduced from Vietnam’s electricity grid, but there is a tangible and direct saving for the recipients of the energy-saving light bulbs. With the average wage in Vietnam just $185 USD per month, savings on electricity costs can have a significant impact on families.
Some of the children supported by Blue Dragon
In addition to providing energy saving light bulbs, Cleaner Climate is using a portion of the fees they receive for developing a Preventative Educational Program developed by Blue Dragon to help keep disadvantaged children off the streets, where they are often targeted by exploitative people traffickers. By funding school fees and supplies for one year, Cleaner Climate have helped 105 students in rural villages attend school in 2013.
