Streets International – Hoi An
Streets International – Hoi An
Streets International is dedicated to equipping young Vietnamese children from often disadvantaged backgrounds with vocational skills that will last a lifetime. Focusing around the Streets cafe and restaurant in Hoi An, over 18 months apprentices take on various roles within the cafe from trainee chef’s, front of house to waiting. In order to expand cultural understanding, help the young trainees gain valuable credits for their course and give our clients a truly authentic view of Hoi An, all of our tours that include Vietnam in 2011 and 2012 will include a truly unique experience in collaboration with Streets International.
In very small groups Insider Journeys clients will join a young trainee from Streets – along with a supervisor from the organisation – on a personal tour of Hoi An’s Tan An Market which is rarely visited or even seen by tourists. After enjoying some local foods at the market you’ll venture beyond the old town and its tailor’s and take a stroll around Hoi An’s scarcely trodden back streets giving a priceless view of everyday life of this UNESCO World Heritage town. Following this insightful walking tour we’ll head back to Streets Cafe and Restaurant where you can relax with a cool drink and sample some of the cafe’s incredible food!

The Spiral Foundation – Hue
Located in Hue, central Vietnam, is the Spiral Foundation. A non-profit organisation works to help deaf and mute Vietnamese become fully independent members of Vietnamese society. Alongside this incredible work, Spiral also directs all profits generated towards various medical and rehabilitative initiatives across Vietnam.
As part of a small group you’ll have the chance to sit down with some of the employees for a brief hands-on tutorial where you can create your own souvenir to take away with you and all materials used are 100% recycled. If you wish you can also have a go at learning some of the unique sign-language used by the staff.
Enjoyed by our clients and members of the foundation this experience is a great way to further cultural understanding and give something back to the local community! Travel Indochina also makes a donation for every client that visits the centre which will fund around 15 open-heart operations a year. You can read more about the Spiral Foundation here.
At Travel Indochina we are immensely proud of Responsible Travel efforts in Asia and currently support a variety of community based and environmental projects in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and India. Visits to both Spiral and Streets International are featured on most of our small group tours to Vietnam.
